First Lady's Comment On Buhari And The Mass Hysteria by Sabinus Eboh

First Lady, Patience Jonathan
Our gentle, soft-spoken Patience Jonathan caused a great stir in the buildup to the 2015 presidential election last two weeks in Cross River State when she insinuated that Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressive Congress, APC Presidential candidate for the 2015 general election in Nigeria, may be suffering from brain damage due to old age and that anybody that mentions change should be stoned.

Since that statement, all hell has been let loose with an exhibition of mass hysteria from the main opposition party.

They APC has reacted by calling her a crude woman with a threat to pull out of the non-violence accord signed with the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Abuja.

The issuance of threat and violence by the APC anytime aspersion is cast on their candidate smacks of hypocrisy on their part. As far as one could remember, APC has remained the greatest culprit in character assassination and attack on personality instead of facing issues.

If we recall vividly, APC, through Lai Mohammed threw the first stone when they referred to the President as running a ‘clueless’ government. Bisi Akande followed on the heels when he referred to the President as a ‘kindergarten President’, alluding that he is learning on the job.

Prof. Wole Soyinka, a strong supporter of the opposition party, APC, threw away all manner of decorum when he called the First Lady a ‘Sheppopotamus’, comparing her to the Hippopotamus.

A click on the website of APC's 'foreign media wing', Sahara Reporters, present to you in one of the most despicable manner both in texts and graphics, the worst portrayal of the President and his family to the International community. There is a daily assault on our sensibilities of images and write-ups that makes caricature of our President. This daily assault leaves one to shudder on the kind of hatred publicly exhibited by the opposition towards a man whose only crime is because he refuses to participate in the ‘dirty’ part of the political game.

APC as a party has left no one in doubt about their desperate need to grab political power at all cost. Politics to them is a dirty game and at such all manner of dubious allegation and propaganda has been deployed against the person of the President and the ruling party in order to hoodwink the voters to vote for them.

In their desperation, individuals and institutions which represent our national pride and dignity has been denigrated. In the course of their campaign, the Presidency, our armed forces, distinguished individuals with internationally acclaimed recognition has all been rubbished. To them everything must go down whether good or bad.

With all these abuses and insults from the opposition on the person of the President, one begins to wonder why the mass hysteria from the APC about the allusion by the First Lady on their Presidential candidate.

As far as I am concerned, APC has shown that they are so intolerant. I don’t want to believe they are borrowing a leaf from Buhari as a former dictator, compared to President Jonathan who has remain calm and mature in the mist of extreme provocation and abuse.
